Our host’s move to a new upstream provider went well and things were back up and running early this morning. As a result of the downtime, though, BattleJesus may be missing from some channels.
If this is the case, please let me know! Find me on the IRC network as “juliebug” and I’ll help you out.
I’ve joined him back to several regional channels, but if I’ve missed any where you previously had him, let me know.
Thanks and happy NaNoWriMo to all!
Ladies and gentlement, National Novel Writing Month 2014 is nearly upon us and it’s thanks to you that we’re still around. Thanks to your donations, GoodChatting.com was able to recover from the loss of our free server space in May of 2013 and your donations have pushed us through to January of 2015 in terms of keeping the new server paid for.
That said, as we stand on the cusp of another year of NaNoWriMo goodness, I have to announce that there will be some server downtime for the IRC server.
Starting between 10pm and 12am Pacific Time (GMT-7) on October 31/November 1, there will be downtime for anywhere between 4 to 6 hours. Our server host is changing their upstream provider and so this downtime can’t really be avoided.
Terrible timing for the Wrimos, I know — believe me, I’m going to suffer here as well!
That said, most of North America will probably miss the downtime altogether, but if you’re wondering what’s up, please check out our host’s update page:
They’re also on Twitter and Facebook.
I’ll be monitoring things for a while, but will probably only wake up well after the move has been completed. You can stay up to date by checking out the main news blog page or by checking out our Twitter account:
Thanks for your understanding — I’ll keep you up to date as best I can. Now, my fellow Wrimos, get ready for NaNoWriMo 2014!
Hi and welcome to the new webhost for GoodChatting.com. We moved from our old host to our new host on September 13, 2014.
I anticipated that there may be problems, particularly with the Java applet. During the process, I updated my Java and was unable to load the Java applet at all afterwards. Given this and the fact that the applet (PJIRC) appears to no longer be supported by its creators, I’ve decided to move to a different applet — Kiwi IRC. You may (or may not) be experiencing problems with PJIRC yourself, but the move to Kiwi IRC’s applet is going to happen anyhow.
Over the next day or so, all channels that currently have a webpage at GoodChatting.com that uses PJIRC to access the IRC server will receive a new page with the Kiwi IRC applet. All pages will retain the same name. Note that you may need to force a refresh/reload (and/or clear your cache) to see the new applet.
I anticipate this to be done by Sunday evening, September 14.
In the meantime, if you’re having problems with PJIRC, please consider using an IRC client like mIRC (for Windows) or Colloquy (for Macs).
