Dear GoodChatters,
At 11pm ET (GMT-5) on Sunday, December 7th, 2025, the GoodChatting.com IRC server will close down, permanently.
The server has run for nearly 25 years and, well, it's time to say goodbye. I've been drifting ever further from the IRC scene, so to speak, for at least a decade, and as other chat services, such as Discord and other texting apps have come to prominence, the need for a small IRC server has dwindled.
Over the years, we've gone from being a private server for a few of my friends, to just a small, unlinked, single-server network. We've been the home of the official NaNoWriMo chatroom and then the not-so-official home of many regional chatrooms. What we've always been is a home for people who wanted to connect with others who had similar interests.
The server wouldn't have lasted as long as it did without my co-administrator, Fish. Fish kept an eye on things while that whole pesky "Real Life" thing kept me away. He made sure the server rules remained in effect. He basically ran the server the last few years. And for this, I thank him sincerely. <3
To my old friends, who helped me found this server, many of whom won't even see this message... Thank you for helping me to form these precious communities. I miss those days.
To my old NaNo buds, particularly those who made #nanowrimo a fun place to try to write a novel, and particularly those responsible for BattleJesus, thank you for all you've done. You created a great little community and I was thrilled to be a part of it. I will treasure some of those memories forever.
